The War on Litter Institute
Ideas that work

Everyone wants a clean street
Public litter is a universal problem.
A street is clean if people don’t litter,
or someone cleans up when they do.
Everyone knows that. It’s not rocket science.
That’s how homes and offices are kept clean.
So why doesn’t it happen on the street ?
Why don’t we just have bins everywhere and
fine those who litter. Is it really that simple ?

Why the WOL Institute exists
To take a fresh look at this age-old problem.
Its mission is to help keep people keep their
streets clean. With simple, practical ideas.
The War on Litter will be won when people
voluntarily change their littering behaviour.
It’s not impossible. You just have to be
smart about how it is done.
The Institute publishes WOL Papers
- smart solutions that have worked.

What’s a WOL Paper ?
- 1 page long, in simple english.
- Based on an idea that has worked
- Easy to replicate by others
- Cheap, common-sense solution
- Focuses on changing littering behaviour,
A WOL Paper provides hope
– that the problem can be solved.
By you. Working alone. Starting Today.

The current focus is India – a growing economy that tolerates an incredible amount of filth on its streets.
A vibrant democracy where citizens enjoy the Right to Litter. And the Right to get Offended if you point it out.
These WOL Papers are meant for those Indians who are troubled enough to try and do something about this.
