Meet Aditya. He cares about this. He tells us itís not that simple. Nothing on an Indian street is as simple as it looks at first sight!
He runs a shop right in front and tells us that he has tried several times to fix this. He is frustrated - someone always moves the slab.
This is a symptom of a classic Indian multi-agency problem. Several agencies control the footpath and what lies beneath.
Telephone companies, electricity companies, water companies, sewerage companies Ė look into any drain and you see a maze of wires.
Aditya is convinced that telecom company BSNL opens this for regular repairs, and leaves it open. He points to a wire jutting out and preventing proper placement of the slab. He is probably right. We decided to dig a little deeper.
